Minghui Yang Research Group
Welcome to Minghui YANG research lab! Our group at Chinese Academy of Sciences is focused on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel functional solid state materials for applications in energy conversion and sensors. Our research aims to contribute to fundamental understanding of correlations between morphology, crystal structures, surface properties and the performance of solid state materials including transition metal nitrides, oxides and oxynitrides. Using both experimental and theoretical results, we have been analyzing the relationship of crystal and surface structure and have correlated it to the activity. In particular, a major breakthrough from the lab recently involved the discovery that ZrN shows better catalytic property than Pt/C for oxygen reduction reaction, and low working temperature sensor material. Likewise, we have shown that – Sn3N4 for ethanol sensing is ideal and can be readily achieved (in scale) using soft urea synthetic method. We will continue to stimulate further research to solid state functional materials, and is likely to impact both energy and environmental technologies!
